Compared two outrigger pads on a job last month - one was clearly the winner
Had a muddy site in Durham and tried steel plates against the new composite pads I borrowed. The steel just sank after lunch, but the composites held steady through the whole afternoon lift. Anyone else made the switch and noticed a difference?

Man, I totally agree, composites are way better on soft ground in my experience.

Blew out my knee last season testing that theory on a downhill section, slipped on wet roots and landed like a sack of potatoes. Still, I'll take a muddy break over dry hardpack any day where my tires just slide everywhere. My friend swears by his aluminum frame for grip, but I keep telling him it's the rubber touching the ground that matters, not what you're sitting on. I bring this up every time we ride, probably drive him crazy, but it's true.
