Frustrated: spent 6 hours chasing a load chart error that turned out to be a bent pin on the boom angle sensor
Crawler was showing 8,000 lbs under capacity on Friday at the yard in Bakersfield, so I pulled every chart and had the mechanic out twice. Turned out to be a bent pin on the boom angle sensor from when we boomed down on uneven gravel three weeks ago. Anybody else run into that sensor going bad quietly instead of throwing a code?
Man that is the worst kind of gremlin, a sensor that lies to you with no light on the dash. I have seen those angle sensors get whacked and just start drifting a few degrees, which does not sound like much until you do the math on the radius and suddenly your chart is way off. Six hours of chasing a bent pin will make you want to throw the laptop across the yard. At least it was cheap to fix once you found it, that is the only good part.
