Had a boom angle sensor fail on a Grove RT530E last Thursday

I was lifting a 12 ton HVAC unit onto a roof in downtown Columbus. My load chart said I had plenty of capacity at 50 feet and a 60 degree angle. Then the boom angle sensor started bouncing between 45 and 65 degrees. I shut it down and checked the wiring harness right where it bends near the boom base plate. Found a chafed wire rubbing against a bolt. Taped it up and reset the system and it worked fine for the rest of the job. Has anyone else dealt with these sensors acting up in wet weather?

Was it raining or just high humidity when you had the bounce happen? I've seen those sensors freak out more from moisture getting in the connector pins than the actual chafed wire. Did you check for water in the plug before you taped it up?

Grant.jason, I've seen that moisture theory floated before but in my experience chafed wires are the actual culprit way more often than damp connectors. A good wrap of friction tape solves it for good, while chasing moisture just becomes a recurring headache.
