My boss in Houston wants us to switch to all-remote crane control by next year
He says it's safer and we can run two lifts at once from a single cab. But three years ago on a wind farm job, I saw a remote system lose signal for a full 30 seconds during a critical pick. What's the real risk versus reward here?

Remote signal loss is no joke, man. My own coordination is so bad I'd probably drop a load trying to use a TV remote. But for real, that 30 second blackout you saw is the scary part they never talk about in the sales pitch.

Watched my buddy's drone just drop dead mid-air when the signal cut out.

Had a Phantom 3 do that exact same thing about 200 feet up... just cut out and fell like a rock into a pond. You're totally right @jaken23, that blackout window is way longer than you'd think when it actually happens.
