Old crane hand told me to quit fighting the wind and work with it

There's a retired guy named Pete who hangs around the yard sometimes, been running cranes since the 70s. Last month I was on a job in Kansas City setting HVAC units on a hospital roof, and the wind kept pushing my load around. I was getting frustrated, fighting it, trying to hold position. Pete walked over and said "Stop fighting the wind, just let it swing and time your drop when it comes back." I thought he was crazy but tried it on the next pick. Took a little practice but I got that unit down smooth in about 10 minutes after spending almost an hour fighting it before. Has anyone else had good luck with that "work with the wind" method on a tight spot?

Idk, fighting it builds control and sometimes you just gotta muscle through.
