Old hydraulic crane vs new electric one - which is actually better in the rain?

I run a small landscaping company and we rented a new electric crane last month for a job in Seattle. It was pouring rain all week and that thing kept giving us error codes about moisture in the connectors. Had to wait for it to dry out twice. My old Link-Belt hydraulic from 1998 never had that problem. I get that electric is cleaner and quieter, but in wet weather I'm starting to wonder if the old tech is more reliable. The rental guy said modern cranes have better sealing but I'm not buying it. Anyone else run into this problem with the newer electric rigs?

Is it just me or does it feel like all this new "weatherproof" tech is actually less weatherproof than the old stuff we grew up with? My phone stops working in drizzle now too lmao.

@janac59 right, my old nokia survived a toilet dive but this thing dies if I sneeze near it.
