Old timer at the yard changed my mind on synthetic rigging

I used to swear by wire rope for all my picks, thought synthetic slings were too risky. Then a guy named Hank who's been running cranes since the 70s showed me how his nylon stuff held up after a bad catch on a steel beam. He let me feel the fibers and explained how the wear shows way before failure. Has anyone else switched and seen a real difference in their daily work?

That "wear shows way before failure" part is interesting. How far along did Hank say the nylon was before he decided to retire it?

Watched a buddy push a set of nylon climbing slings way past their prime once, the webbing started fraying like a cheap rope. He kept saying "one more trip" until it looked like a sad tassel hanging off his harness. By the time he finally swapped them out, I swear you could see daylight through the strands.
