PSA: How a near-miss made me rethink quick crane setups

Back when I was new, I figured fast setup checks were fine to keep jobs moving. We'd often skip a few steps (like a full gear inspection) to save time. Then I saw a buddy's crane sway badly because a base plate wasn't level. That shook me up and made me slow down. Now, I always do a full walk-around, even on simple lifts. It adds a few minutes, but it cuts out big risks. Looking back, I wish I'd learned that lesson sooner.

Forgot to level once, turned the site into a tilt-a-whirl.

Hearing about that base plate not being level is absolutely terrifying. It's shocking how one missed step can put everyone at risk so quickly. Do you ever worry about other crews making the same mistake?

That base plate story makes me check my level twice now.
