Serious question, heard a new guy say he learned everything on a simulator

Made me think about my first year on a real 80-tonner in Philly, learning by feel. Anyone else feel like some things just can't be taught on a screen?

Yeah, you can't simulate that first real pothole in a loaded rig.

Honestly, that pothole comment is dead on. But what about the weather? Can a screen really make you feel that side wind pushing a high load on an overpass, or how the rain changes the feel of the brakes? Tbh, I wonder if sims even try to copy that weird gut feeling when something just sounds off, a noise you've only heard for real. Seems like you miss learning to trust your own senses over a perfect digital readout.

Ngl, that gut feeling bit is key. I've had a trailer start to sway just a little in a crosswind and my brain knew something was wrong before the dash light even flickered. Can a sim actually teach you to pick up on those tiny shifts you feel in your seat before a problem turns into a real shitshow?
