Spent 10 years hating on luffing jibs until a guy named Pete set me straight at the union hall

I always thought luffing jibs were just extra headache for no real reason, but Pete from Local 4 showed me how he landed a 12 ton steel beam perfectly between two buildings on a tight site in Boston with one. He walked me through the counterweight math and the wind load differences, and it clicked that I was just mad I never learned them proper. Any of you switch from hammerhead to luffing and find it changed how you bid jobs?

Spent 10 years hating on luffing jibs" and you're acting like Pete from Local 4 gave you a religious conversion. Luffing jibs are fine for tight spots but you're talking like he showed you the secrets of the universe. I've seen guys make a hammerhead work in Boston alleys with the right tagline setup and some patience. All of a sudden you're gonna bid jobs different just cause some union hall guru had a good day.

Right there with you, I had my own "come to Jesus" moment with a luffing jib and it turned out to be just a decent tool for a very specific job. Seen plenty of hammy heads do the same work in tighter spaces, just takes a guy who knows his taglines and has some patience. People act like one good demo erases ten years of watching those rigs get in the way on every other site.
