Appreciation post: That $30 writing prompt deck I almost returned

I picked up a box of prompt cards at a discount bookstore for $30 about a month ago. Thought it would be a waste, but I've been stuck on my fantasy novel for months. Used one about "a character who keeps a secret ledger" and wrote 5 pages that same night. Has anyone else found a cheap tool that actually broke them out of a slump?

Those prompt decks are hit or miss but the secret ledger one is solid. Try forcing yourself to write from the perspective of one detail you haven't used yet, like a weird object or a tucked away note.

Oh man I've been there, trying to write from some random trinket's POV actually unlocked a whole subplot I never saw coming lol.
