Found out Stephen King wrote 'Carrie' on his wife's portable typewriter in their trailer

I read that in a 2014 interview with Rolling Stone, and it made me think how the physical tools we use to write can shape a story before a single word is even on the page.

It's a cool story, but does the tool really change the art that much? Plenty of great books were written on cheap typewriters or even by hand. The real magic is in the writer's head, not the machine. A fancy computer didn't help me write my college papers any faster. The story gets shaped by the author's skill and imagination, not the brand of their keyboard.

You're right that the magic is in the writer's head, but the right tool can get out of the way and let that magic flow faster. I found my writing got smoother when I stopped fighting a slow computer and just used what felt easy.
