I used to think writing prompts had to be huge, epic ideas
Last month, I was stuck trying to outline a fantasy novel and getting nowhere. My coworker, Mr. Evans, suggested I just write about 'a character who finds a single blue sock in their dryer that isn't theirs.' That tiny, specific detail unlocked a whole mystery plot about magical laundry in my apartment building. It completely changed how I brainstorm. What's the smallest, most ordinary prompt that's ever sparked a big story for you?

Used to think you had to start with world ending stakes or some grand quest... then I wrote a story about someone finding a receipt for a coffee they never bought on their dashboard. Turned into a whole thing about a doppelganger living a parallel life three blocks away. That tiny slip of paper unraveled their entire routine, made them question every coincidence they'd ever shrugged off. Funny how the smallest things can crack open a whole new world if you just let them.

So what was on that grocery list? Like, was it just milk and eggs, or were there weird items that made you ask questions?

Mine had "cat litter" and "forget-me-nots" which I guess was the universe telling me I'm a mess.
