Passed 500 followers on my serial and it felt weirdly heavy
I write this ongoing fantasy serial in my free time and last Tuesday the counter hit 512 people following it. That number sounds small next to big authors but it freaked me out because now I feel like I owe these strangers a proper ending. Has anyone else hit a milestone that made them more nervous than excited?
That "weirdly heavy" feeling is real and it usually means you care about the story, not that you owe anyone a perfect bow on top. My advice is to write the ending you'd want if you were the only reader, because 512 people followed you for your voice and trying to guess what they want will just freeze you up. The nerves don't go away but they do get quieter once you start typing the next scene.
