Last winter I paid for a fancy plotting software thinking it would fix my messy drafts, but I ended up writing the whole novel in a plain Google Doc anyway. The app's character cards were cool until I realized I was filling them out instead of actually writing scenes. Has anyone else bought a tool that sounded great but just got in the way of your real process?
I did the same thing with a meal planner app a few years back. Spent a whole weekend entering recipes and setting up my grocery list, felt so organized, and then Monday night we ordered pizza like always. The planning part is sneaky because it feels like real work. Same with writing tools, you get that little hit of progress without actually writing a word. My drafts got better when I stopped setting things up and just started putting words down, even bad ones.
