Tried writing a horror prompt about a haunted hospital and accidentally gave myself a panic attack at 3 AM

I was typing away on my night shift break, really getting into the vibe of a ghost nurse stalking the hallways, and suddenly my own coworker tapped my shoulder to ask about a patient. Now I have to scrap the whole prompt because it hit too close to home - has anyone else's creative writing ever freaked you out in real life?

Isn't that just a sign you are writing something truly effective and real?

Hard disagree, @clark.iris. Making someone feel miserable doesn't make it "real" or "effective," it just makes you a downer. A story can be honest without dragging people through every bit of gloom. If your main takeaway is "I feel awful after reading this," that's a red flag, not a compliment.
