Warning: That $40 writing prompt book I bought was a total dud
Picked up a collection called "1000 Story Sparks" off Amazon for about 40 bucks. Figured it'd be a goldmine for my next fantasy series. All it gave me was stuff like "a cat finds a key" or "two strangers meet at a bus stop." Zero depth, no genre-specific prompts, nothing that got my brain moving. I've gotten better ideas from free subreddits in five minutes. Anyone else get burned by a pricey prompt book that felt like it was written by a bot?

Did you maybe buy a general creative writing book instead of a fantasy one?

That's actually more common than you'd think. A lot of bookstores will shelve general writing guides in the fantasy section if they have a dragon or castle on the cover.
