Brought up my family's tradition of eating placenta after childbirth at a dinner party in Austin last spring and three people actually got up and left.

I was just sharing how my grandma did it for energy after having my aunt, but apparently mentioning 'human afterbirth' over enchiladas is a hard limit for most people, so has anyone else accidentally crossed a food taboo in front of friends and had it go sideways?

I read somewhere that in some cultures eating placenta is normal and they even dry it and put it in capsules like a vitamin. That enchilada story is wild though, I'd probably just laugh and ask if it was a special recipe.

I just nodded and went along with it when my buddy served something weird... figured it's not worth ruining a good meal over.
