Got disowned for naming my baby after a "dead relative"? Actually it worked
So my wife and I picked a name from her great-grandmother's generation, one that's not trendy now but means a lot to her family. Her mom flipped out, said it was bad luck because the original owner died young in the 1940s. We kept the name anyway, and after the birth, her whole extended family suddenly started sharing old photos and stories about this person. Now they treat our daughter like a living connection to that ancestor, total 180. Has anyone else had a family taboo turn into a bonding thing once you just pushed through it? Curious if this happens in other cultures too, or if it's just my in-laws being dramatic.
