Heard my aunt in Mumbai say 'don't touch me' to her own daughter last week
She was talking about her period and how her mom taught her it was unclean to touch anyone for 4 days. The daughter is 12 and looked confused. It made me realize how deep that shame goes for some families. Has anyone else seen this kind of thing passed down without question?

4 days no touching. That's insane. I know a family that makes the girls sleep on the floor during their period. They have extra beds but they're not allowed to use them. The mom told me it's "tradition" but the daughter is 13 and already hates herself for it. Makes me sick honestly. That poor 12 year old is gonna grow up thinking she's dirty every month. Nobody should feel ashamed for a normal body function.

What gets me is how this gets passed down mother to daughter like some kind of curse. The mom probably went through the same thing growing up and never questioned it, now she's doing it to her own kid without seeing the damage.
