My aunt in the Philippines made me question funeral traditions
During a video call last Tuesday, my aunt casually mentioned she already picked out her coffin and it's sitting in her garage. I laughed at first, but then she explained how families there often build or buy coffins years early and even keep them at home. It hit different because in the US we treat death like a secret, we don't even like saying the word. She said, "It's just a box, but it lets everyone say goodbye while I can still hear them." Has anyone else grown up with one culture treating death openly and another treating it like something to hide?
