My funeral dinner in Seoul turned into a two-hour etiquette lecture
Last spring my Korean friend's family invited me to their halmeoni's memorial feast, and I almost served myself first before the eldest male picked up his chopsticks. My friend whispered the rule to me just in time, and after the meal her aunt spent two hours explaining why spoons rest left and chopsticks right at every table. Has anyone else stumbled into a formal ritual without knowing the customs?

At least you didn't grab the kimchi first with your hands.
