PSA: I asked my grandma about her family's history in front of my cousins in Seoul

Honestly, I just wanted to know more about our ancestors, but the room went totally silent for a full minute. I learned that directly asking elders about certain past events, especially around the Korean War, is a huge no-go in our family. Has anyone else accidentally stepped into a family history minefield like that?

My aunt once asked why we never visit a certain city, and my dad just got up and left the room.

And honestly that's the kind of thing that makes you realize families have whole unspoken rules about what's off limits. @beth_hart68 is right that we should be asking, but most people just learn to tiptoe around those invisible tripwires instead. It's wild how one question can make a whole room go quiet like that lol.

Wait, shouldn't we be the ones asking those hard questions?
