Unpopular opinion: refusing a toast in Osaka got me labeled rude, but I did it anyway

My host kept filling my glass at a work dinner last Tuesday and I kept turning it down since I was driving back to Nara, but honestly the pressure to drink here feels way stronger than the actual law about it, has anyone else just held their ground and dealt with the cold stares?
