Wasted $300 on that 'all-natural' grief retreat in Vermont

I used to think those expensive therapy retreats were always a scam, but a friend convinced me to try one after my divorce. Spent $300 on a weekend in Stowe where we literally just sat in circles and cried to ambient music. Has anyone else been suckered into something like that and actually got anything out of it?

but $300 is actually pretty cheap for a weekend retreat like that. Most places charge $800-$1500 easy. I know because my sister runs one of these things up in New Hampshire. She's seen people drop serious cash on places that just make you do yoga and journal for three days. The crying to ambient music thing sounds silly but honestly, it's way cheaper than a therapist and some people just need permission to let it out. My cousin did one after her husband left and she said the group crying thing was the only time she actually felt like people got it. Not saying it's for everyone but $300 is maybe the lowest price I've ever heard for a structured grief thing.

$300 might be on the low end price-wise but that doesn't mean it's a good deal for everyone... sounds like you just paid to cry in a room with strangers, which you could do at home for free.
