A contract clause almost cost me $15k on my Denver build
Three years ago, I missed a line in the specs about 'allowances' that let the builder swap materials without telling me. They tried to use a cheaper siding brand and keep the budget difference. Has anyone else had to fight over allowance wording?

That "swap materials without telling me" part is brutal. My cousin's contractor pulled something similar with flooring allowances on a kitchen reno.

Wow, I used to give contractors the benefit of the doubt, but hearing stuff like this totally changed my mind.

What if they're doing it because they messed up the order and are trying to cover their own mistake? Seen that happen where a sub gets the wrong stuff and just slaps it in hoping you won't notice. Makes you wonder how often it's pure greed versus someone trying to hide a bigger screwup. Either way, it's a shady move that should get them fired on the spot.
