Builder ghosted me after foundation pour, had to scramble for a replacement

So I hired this builder in Austin for my custom home, seemed solid with good references. Everything was fine until after they poured the foundation and then just stopped answering calls for like 10 days. I drove by the lot and saw the concrete sitting there with no one working, started panicking big time. Finally tracked down the owner at a job site and he told me his crew got pulled onto a bigger project downtown. I had to fire him on the spot and bring in a new builder from Round Rock who charged me an extra $8,500 to fix some curing issues from the delay. Has anyone else dealt with a builder just disappearing mid project like that?

The "curing issues" part is what got me. Concrete cures chemically, not because people are working on it. Unless they poured it wrong or the weather did something, those 10 days alone probably didn't mess anything up. Sounds like the new guy tacked that on to make an extra buck.

And then the guy blamed it on "too much sun," which was fun to hear.
