Can we talk about how I picked a builder by vibe in 2019 vs how I did it last month
Back in 2019 my wife and I hired a custom builder in Boise after talking to the guy for maybe 15 minutes at an open house, and he showed up to our first meeting in flip flops so we figured he was chill and signed a $40k deposit check that week. Fast forward to last month when we built our second place, I made three builders walk me through their last two finished homes, called the owners myself, and asked each one what went wrong on the job because nobody's build is perfect. The flip flop guy took 14 months on a 6 month schedule and blamed the weather in July, which is a bold move in Idaho. Now I want references and a walkthrough before I even talk budget, weird how that flips once you've been burned. Has anyone else gone from trusting a handshake to wanting a full background check, or am I just scarred now?
