Everyone told me to go with a national builder but I went local instead
My buddy who worked in construction for 15 years kept saying stick with the big franchise builders because they have better warranties and faster timelines. I ignored him and hired a small custom builder in Austin for my 2,400 sq ft house. The project took 8 months instead of the promised 6 but the guy fixed a foundation crack at no extra cost 2 years later. Anyone else find local builders actually back their work better than the big companies?

People act like picking a builder is life or death when really most houses are fine either way.

Ha honestly your buddy was probably just salty his own contractor ghosted him. Love how the big builders promise you the moon but then hit you with change orders for every single light switch. Local guys might take their sweet time but at least they show up when you've got a problem instead of sending you to some automated call center. My cousin's national builder house had a roof leak and it took them 3 months just to send someone out. Meanwhile your guy fixed a foundation crack like it was nothing.
