Had to pick between spray foam and rigid foam for my attic in Denver last fall
I went with closed cell spray foam after getting a quote for $2,800 and honestly the air seal is way better than I expected. Has anyone else dealt with foam shrinkage in high altitude or was that just my installer being new?

That "foam shrinkage in high altitude" bit caught my attention. Did you notice the shrinkage right after installation or did it show up later after a few freeze-thaw cycles? I'm curious because my buddy in Boulder had his spray foam pull away from the rafters after one winter and his contractor blamed the dry air up there.

Was your buddy using a 2lb closed cell foam or a lighter density? I see more issues with the lighter stuff pulling away in cold climates regardless of altitude. The real problem is usually bad surface prep, not the dry air. If the wood wasn't clean and dry before they sprayed, that foam is gonna let go every time.

My $2,800 spray foam job pulled away from the rafters so fast I almost named it Houdini.
