Honestly, I got my builder to cut $12k off our quote by showing him a cheaper material option

Tbh, we were stuck on the price for our kitchen's custom cabinetry in Phoenix, and our guy kept saying the quote was firm. Ngl, I spent a weekend researching and found the exact same cabinet-grade plywood from a different supplier for way less. I showed him the invoice from the other yard, and he matched the price on the spot. Has anyone else had luck bringing their own material quotes to the table?

Phoenix cabinet guy must be making good margins if he can drop 12k just like that. I mean, is lumber really that elastic? Feels like a lot of people on here act like saving a few hundred bucks is some life changing event but then also say things like good work isn't cheap. You can't have it both ways. I'd be more worried about the guy who agrees to cut 12k off then the one who stands firm on his price because that tells me he was overcharging by 12k the entire time.

That's smart, but sometimes showing a cheaper price can backfire if they cut corners on the install to make up for it. Did you check the quality was exactly the same?

Oh man, @lopez.brooke, I made sure the quote listed the exact same materials before I showed them the lower bid.
