Installed my own kitchen vent hood and the ducting was a total mess

I spent last Saturday running a 6 inch duct through my attic for a new range hood and the first piece I taped up immediately collapsed under its own weight. Turns out I bought the cheap flex duct instead of the semi-rigid stuff, and now I've got to redo the whole run. Anyone else learned the hard way that not all duct materials are the same for hoods?

Wait, so you used the foil type flex duct for that? The stuff that's basically like dryer vent hose but bigger? I made that mistake once running a bathroom fan and it sagged so bad between the joists I had to cut a hole in my drywall to prop it up with wire hangers. What did you end up using for the rigid connections at the hood itself? I'm wondering if you went with a transition piece that actually matches the dampers on the new range hoods.

Semi-rigid duct like @hugo236 said makes all the difference. Live and learn!
