Just realized my custom builder swapped out the engineered hardwood I picked for a cheaper brand
Noticed the color was off last week after they laid it, checked the boxes in the dumpster, and sure enough it was a different brand that costs $3 less per square foot - has anyone else caught their builder pulling a fast one like that mid-project?

Oh man, that is infuriating! I had the exact same thing happen with my kitchen remodel last year. Picked out a nice mid-range tile for the backsplash, and they went ahead and used some bargain bin stuff that was way thinner and had a totally different glaze. Found the leftover boxes shoved behind the fridge when I was cleaning. Builders really think we won't notice or check, but that's a lot of money you're losing when they swap things out like that. Good on you for catching it though, that's a solid $3 per foot they were pocketing.

$3 per square foot adds up fast though, that's like an extra $400-$500 they just pocketed on a typical room.
