My foundation plan approval in Austin took 11 months, not the 6 weeks they promised.
The city kept asking for more soil reports and engineer stamps on a sloped lot. Every time we sent something, they found a new rule from a different department. The builder said it was normal, but waiting almost a year just to get a permit to dig is crazy. It added over $15k in holding costs and design fees. Has anyone else had a city drag out the plan check process this badly on a custom project?

I mean, 'normal' for your builder might just mean 'welcome to Austin, here's your complimentary 11 month wait and a $15k bill.' That whole '6 week promise' sounds like the city's version of 'the check is in the mail.' But hey, at least you got to really bond with your soil over multiple reports, right? Maybe the city's plan is just to test how much you actually want that foundation before they let you dig.
