Our custom home's engineered floor joists started creaking like crazy after 6 months. Builder says it's 'normal settling'.

Oh sure, "normal settling." That's the sound of your life savings slowly turning into a pile of kindling. My old apartment had less drama, and that place had a literal tree growing through the floor. Might be time to find a builder who uses something sturdier than hopes and dreams.

Sounds pretty bad but could just be the foundation adjusting. Had a friend freak out over cracks, turned out to be normal for a new build in that area. Get a structural engineer out before you panic. They'll tell you if it's real trouble or just ugly.

Check if your home warranty covers "structural daydreams." Some actually do.
