Serious question, was spending $15k on a dedicated home automation wiring package a smart move or a total waste?

My builder pushed hard for it, saying it was future-proofing, but I'm not sure the extra cost over a good wireless system was worth it, so what's your take on hardwired vs. wireless for a new custom build?

Future-proofing is a nice idea but that price tag is wild. We did a custom build a few years back and ran ethernet to a few key spots ourselves for way less. Honestly, a solid mesh wifi system handles almost everything just fine now. I'd only consider that package if you're planning some serious tech that needs super stable connections. For most people, it feels like overkill.

What kind of serious tech are you picturing, @angela_king39? Tbh, I can only think of like, a big home server or maybe pro streaming. For regular stuff, I agree that running a few cables yourself is the smarter move.

Totally get that, @angela_king39. My cat loves chewing on ethernet cables.
