Shoutout to my plumber for a wild reality check
Honestly, I was showing my plumber the fancy floor plan for my new kitchen, with the sink like 20 feet from the main drain line. He just looked at it and said, 'You know, that's gonna cost you about three grand extra in pipe and labor, right?'. Ngl, it hit different coming from the guy who actually has to install it. Anyone else have a tradesperson give them a budget shock over a design choice?

That "budget shock over a design choice" line is so real. I read an article where an architect said the most common budget killer is when homeowners pick a fridge location that needs a new water line run through a concrete slab.

Absolutely, @riverperry! Running a water line through concrete is a huge expense. I saw a remodel where moving the fridge just three feet meant cutting the slab, adding a drain, and rerouting electrical. The quote jumped by eight grand overnight. Always check appliance hookup spots with your contractor before finalizing plans. Those little changes have massive hidden costs.
