Sketched foundations on paper for 12 years, now I refuse to pour without a drone survey
My old way was a measuring wheel and graph paper, which worked fine until I missed a grade change on a hillside lot in Asheville and the footer sat 8 inches wrong. I switched to drone mapping and 3D grading software last spring after that $14,000 fix, and now the machine catches stuff my eyes just can't see. Anyone else found technology worth the cost, or do you still trust the old tape and level approach over the fancy stuff?

...and that 8 inches reminds me of the time my buddy used a laser level to hang a shelf in his garage and ended up with a bowling ball ramp. He spent three weekends fixing the slope but swore by the laser the whole time. Point is, once you see what the tool catches, you never really go back to squinting at a bubble.
