Spec'd a custom foundation without checking soil first and it cracked in 6 months
Spent $12k on a reinforced slab for my own shop build near Austin but skipped the soil test because I was impatient and now there's a 20 foot crack through the middle floor, has anyone else learned this lesson the hard way or am I just the only idiot here?

Man that really sucks, $12k is a tough pill to swallow. I did something similar on a rental property in Houston back in 2019, thought I knew better than the soil report lol. You're definitely not alone on this one.

Oh man the soil report thing hits hard. I spent like $3k extra on a foundation repair back in 2021 cause I ignored a note about clay soil and now my kitchen floor has a hilarious slope to it. Bet you feel like a real genius right now too lol. Its always the stuff you thought you could outsmart that bites you hardest. At least you learned for next time right? Or maybe you just develop a healthy fear of soil reports like I did.
