We finally picked the window style for our mountain house and it was a huge relief

My partner and I were stuck for weeks between casement windows and double-hung for the main living area. The casement ones looked more modern and sealed better, but the double-hung were a classic style that fit the mountain vibe. Our builder, Mark, said the price difference was about $4,200 for the whole wall. We went with the double-hung in the end because we realized we wanted to be able to open just the top part for air without a big draft. They got installed last Tuesday and I'm so glad we chose them. The light comes in perfectly and they just feel right for the house. Has anyone else had to pick between two window types and been really happy with the choice they made?

Our lake cabin has double-hungs and that top vent trick is a lifesaver in the wind.

Actually that's a single-hung window. Double-hungs let both sashes move.

I mean that top vent thing is exactly why I'd pick double hung too. Did you think about how you'll clean the outside of the upper sash though? That's the one thing that always gets me, like you either need a ladder or those special window cleaning wands. Maybe it's just me but I'd be worried about that on a mountain house where stuff might get dirtier faster.
