Controlling my own security scans felt better than today's auto-updates

I used to pick a day each week to run my antivirus scan, and I liked knowing it was done. Now, everything updates in the background without me doing a thing. Some say the old method gave us more control and trust in our systems. Others think automatic updates are safer because they catch threats right away. I remember missing a scan once and getting a nasty pop-up ad that wouldn't go away. With auto-updates, that hasn't happened, but I feel less connected to my computer's safety. Do you prefer the hands-on approach from before, or are you happy letting the software handle it all?

Honestly, how much control did you really have before? Missing one scan and getting hit with junk proves the system was never that solid.

Yeah, like my car dying after one missed oil change, real solid engineering there.

That "one missed oil change" thing is a perfect example. I see it everywhere now, like phones that get slow right after the new model comes out or apps that break if you don't update them weekly. It feels like everything is built just good enough to work, but with zero room for error or delay.
