Lost $200 on a VPN subscription that didn't actually protect me
I signed up for FastVPN last year because it was only $50 for a whole year. Turns out they logged my data and sold it to advertisers anyway. Found out when I checked my router logs and saw constant traffic to ad servers even with the VPN on. Anyone else get burned by a cheap VPN that claimed to be no-log?

my buddy mark signed up for SecureStream VPN last summer. $3.99 a month. thought it was a steal. then his bank called about weird charges from sketchy sites. turned out his VPN was letting traffic slip through during reconnects. his entire browsing history got sold to data brokers. he found his own email and passwords for sale on a dark web marketplace two months later. cost him way more than $50 to get everything sorted.

More like traffic was leaking through their reconnects, not 'slipping' through, right? That's a pretty basic security flaw you'd hope a VPN wouldn't have.
