Paid $180 for a password manager that locked me out anyway

Signed up for that fancy vault service with biometric login, thought it was bulletproof until my phone died on a trip to Dallas and the backup codes were in the same app. Support took 4 days to reset access, missed a client deadline because I couldn't get into my project files. Has anyone else had a 'secure' tool actually become the biggest risk to your workflow?

Reminds me of paying for a gym membership and still gaining weight, all the tech in the world can't solve being human.

That gym comparison is perfect honestly. The irony is the more layers of security you stack, the more ways there are to trip over your own feet. Backup codes in the app defeats the whole purpose, that's just a single point of failure with extra steps. Paid tools give this fake sense of safety until the moment you actually need them. The real lesson is keep a physical paper backup somewhere dumb simple, like in your wallet.
