PSA: The IT guy at my office said 'password123' out loud and I finally set up 2FA on everything
Honestly I was in the break room last Tuesday and heard our IT guy joking that half the office uses the same password for their email and their bank. He said he could guess 3 people's logins just from their desk photos, and one of them was mine. That night I went home and counted 14 accounts that all had some version of my dog's name plus 123. I spent about 2 hours switching them over to a password manager and turning on two factor everywhere I could find it. Ngl it was annoying, especially the bank one that made me wait for a code 3 times. But last week my email actually flagged a login attempt from a city I've never been to, and I caught it right away. Has anyone else had a close call like that and finally cleaned up their passwords? What app do you use to keep track of all of them?
Oh man, your IT guy basically handed out free paranoia that day and honestly he did you a favor lol. It's wild how we all know better and still type the same password into 47 different sites like the internet is our personal diary. The desk photo thing would mess me up though, like now I'm side eyeing every framed picture on my desk. Good on you for catching that login attempt, that timing is almost too perfect. I went through the same cleanup after my Netflix got hacked by some guy in another country who started watching shows I would never touch.
