Serious question, did we all get lazier about passwords after password managers took over?
I set up a password manager 6 years ago and felt like a genius, then realized I hadn't actually changed my master password since day one. When a buddy in Tampa asked me to help him recover his account after a breach, I pulled up his vault and saw the same 4 passwords recycled across 30 sites he'd saved over 3 years. The manager made us both stop memorizing anything, so when the master got weak, everything behind it was soft. I think the old tip of keeping a few strong passwords memorized had something the app stores never really replaced. Anyone else notice their security got worse once they stopped needing to remember anything?
My buddy in Denver used a manager for years and his master password was just his old dog's name with a 1 at the end. Someone got into his email and from there they hit his bank and even his work login, all because one weak key unlocked the whole ring. The manager didn't make him lazy on its own, it just made the laziness way more expensive when it finally caught up.
