That $12 password manager subscription saved me from a real mess

I was driving through Oklahoma last month and stopped at a truck stop to check my email on their wifi. A popup said my account was compromised somewhere, but I shrugged it off until I got home and found someone tried to order $400 worth of stuff on my Amazon. Turns out I used the same password for everything for like 5 years. I finally paid for a password manager, bitwarden I think it was, and now I don't reuse anything. Has anyone else had a close call like that from lazy password habits?

Ngl the close call stories are scary but honestly the upside of password managers nobody talks about is how they help you spot phishing attempts way better. Before I used one, I'd click on any login link that looked kinda legit because I was used to typing my password everywhere. Now bitwarden auto fills only on the real site and when a fake login page pops up and nothing happens, that's your red flag. Saved me from a fake Netflix login scam last month when the email looked perfect but the manager just sat there doing nothing.

Honestly walked into that trap myself a few months back with a "your package is delayed" text that looked spot on. Clicked the link, entered my info, and sat there waiting for the tracking update like a dummy. Password manager would have saved me from typing my Amazon password into a site that didn't look like Amazon at all. But nope, I was too busy thinking I was being responsible checking my delivery status. Bitwarden just sitting there like "nah, this ain't it" while you're about to hand over your credentials is honestly the digital equivalent of a friend grabbing your arm before you walk into traffic.
