The moment a bank teller handed me my password on a sticky note

I was at a Chase branch in Columbus last month just trying to reset my online banking. The teller said, "Oh don't worry, here's your new password right on this sticky note," and slid it across the counter to me right in plain view. I told her that's a huge security risk but she just shrugged and said nobody else has ever complained. Has anyone else run into bank employees being this careless with login info?

That whole "nobody else has ever complained" line is exactly what they told me at a PNC branch in Indy a few years ago. I was trying to get a replacement debit card and the lady just wrote the new PIN on a piece of scratch paper and handed it over the counter. I felt like I was the crazy one for being bothered by it. It's weird how some bank employees just don't see the problem with writing sensitive stuff down in plain sight when anyone could be looking. I wonder if their training is just that outdated or if they really think sticky notes are some kind of industry standard.

Hmm, I actually kind of get where the bank teller was coming from, even if it wasn't the best way to handle it. In my experience, a lot of people just want the fastest solution possible and they don't care about the security theater part of it. I've seen folks get annoyed when I try to be careful with their info, like I'm wasting their time. So maybe the teller has done it that way a hundred times and nobody said boo, so she assumed it was fine. Not saying it's right, but I can see how that attitude develops when you're dealing with the public all day. Your mileage may vary, but sometimes the "no one else complained" line is just lazy thinking, not malice.
