The "secure" password manager demo that showed me my password habits

Last week at a local tech meetup in Austin, the speaker pulled up a live dashboard showing how fast common passwords get cracked. Turns out my go-to pattern from college would fall in under 2 minutes, which honestly shocked me since I thought mixing in a symbol was safe. Has anyone else had a rude awakening from one of those password strength stats, and did it actually change what you use?

Ditch the password manager angle entirely and think about where those weak passwords actually live. My rude awakening wasn't the crack time, it was realizing I reused the same base password across like five different sites, just swapping the symbol at the end. The demo showed me that pattern is super common and basically one crack gets you into everything. So now I use a passphrase made of three random words with spaces, stuff like "blue taco Tuesday" but way less funny, and it takes way longer to brute force. That changed my habits more than any strength meter did.
