Two Factor Auth on my router took 3 hours to set up

I spent an entire evening just getting the authenticator app to sync with my ancient Netgear router (firmware from 2017 I think). Has anyone else had a ridiculously simple security feature turn into a time sink like that?

Wait, is having a router from 2017 really that big of a deal lol? I mean yeah it's old but most people don't even bother with 2FA on their router at all. I get that it took forever, but honestly if you just set a really long random password and update the firmware every couple years, you're probably fine. The whole authenticator app thing feels overkill for something that sits in your closet and nobody touches.
