Got into it with a guy who thinks 'literally' can mean 'figuratively' now
I was at a coffee shop in Portland last week and this dude said his morning commute was 'literally a nightmare.' No it wasn't, you just sat in traffic for 20 minutes. Why do people keep using words to mean the opposite of what they actually say?

Yeah that Portland guy probably uses "traumatizing" for burnt coffee too.

I had a neighbor from Portland once who told me his cat was "gaslighting him" because it meowed at 4am and then pretended to be asleep when he got up. That's the kind of thing that makes me wonder if people up there just use therapy words for everyday annoyance. Burnt coffee is bad, sure, but it's not traumatizing - it's just a bad cup of joe.
